This unique Community based Health Insurance Scheme Started in 1981 at that time known as ‘Samaritan Fund’ with idea that the community jointly and in solidarity sharing the responsibility of caring for the sick and less privileged. It turned out to be an imaginative and creative contribution to several NGOs around the country today. In 1981 an annual membership fee of Rs. Two or two kilograms rice entitled a person to receive services at home and in the Referral Hospital. Today the premium is Rs. 30 for a person for one year and entitles the member to receive health services up to Rs. 100/- at Rural Health Center (RHC) level and in the Referral Hospital Rs. 2500/-. Since 2014 this program is known as Community Health Protection Scheme (CHPS) covering Preventive, Promotive, Curative and Rehabilitative services in the village as well as in the referral hospital.

The total enrolled in RAHA CHPS in 2018 is over 100,000 members.
